Water Wing

Students based in Water Wing (Ash, Oak, Maple & Hawthorn class) are working at Key Stage 3 and 4. All students who work on Water Wing are assigned a class tutor and a Key Worker. They stay with their tutor and tutor group for most of the Foundation subjects. During this period, whilst we deliver the Recovery Curriculum, students are working in class and wing bubbles, meaning they are working with a limited number of others. This is so strong relationships can be built up and work can be prepared to suit the needs of individuals during these challenging times.

For core subjects of English and Maths, Ash, Maple and Oak students work in streamed groups, which are based on ability. This enables the teacher to plan according to the needs of the class with more precision.

Alongside English and Maths, students study a rich blend of Foundation subjects, which include:

  • Science
  • Computing
  • History
  • Geography
  • PE and Outdoor Education
  • Art and Design
  • Design and Technology
  • PSHE - Personal, Social and Health Education
  • RSE – Relationship and Sex Education
  • Music

The core aim of our curriculum is to prepare students for life and work. Whenever appropriate, all subjects are taught with a clear link to independence and life skills. Opportunities for off-site learning are planned in throughout the year to support student’s understanding of the wider community and their place within it, both now and in the future.

When students begin in Key Stage 3, they are assessed in both English and Maths. This provides a baseline in which targets for the year and the end of Key Stage are set. Twice through the year, students are formally assessed to ensure that they are on track to meet their expected targets.
