We plan a students' employability programme from their aspirations for adult life. If a student has a specific interest or they know what work they would like to explore, this is where the journey to employment starts.

We are very proud of our partnerships with local businesses and have had very successful work placements, these include DHL Morrisons, Scope, Bridgwater Library, District Council, Chilton School and 1610. We are always looking for more partnerships with local businesses.

We have a very successful Enterprise project which involves all students. We have excellent links with Angel Place in Bridgwater where students make high quality products and sell these to members of the public. We also sell items we have made at our various events throughout the year.

We have three levels of work experience for our students at the Jean Rees Centre:

  • Work related learning
    • Access and experience a range of businesses and industries
    • Structured activities which are work related
    • Short term opportunities where students experience one or two different job roles within an organisation
  • Work Experience
    • Short work placements which could be in one business or across a number of different places
    • Weekly experience both internal to the centre or at one of the other sites within the Federation
  • Work Placements
    • Longer term placements
    • Students build up skills over time, practising them at the centre
    • Support is reduced at students gain in confidence
The Somerset pop-up shop with a difference

If you're looking for somewhere local to do your Christmas shopping, you might want to visit this place. 'Sense-ational' is a pop-up shop in Bridgwater that is run by young people with special educational needs. More on this here ?: https://bit.ly/33myVMb
