Federation Newsletter May 2018

Dear Reader

What lovely weather we have had over the last few weeks. Certainly enabled us to get outside and enjoy the fresh air.

We have said a very sad Goodbye to Jill Kitchker, who retired on the 20 April. Jill has worked with students across the Federation for a number of years, supporting and teaching them how to cook and prepare snacks in the kitchen. Jill will certainly be missed by all.

We work with a number of organisations at the Federation and I wanted to mention the work they do with us, the dedication they show and the hard work they put in to support our young people. There are far too many to name, but a couple to share in this newsletter are Reach, Dan and his team at Reach support some of our young people who find being in school difficult. The staff at Reach

provide excellent individual mentoring, alongside nurturing and team building activities out in the community. We have certainly seen our young people thrive when working with the Reach team.

The Somerset Rural Youth Project have supported a number of young people over the last 2 years, students have learnt about mechanics, taking apart bikes and cars and rebuilding them. Students have shown amazing skills and are working towards a qualification in this field.   Some of our younger pupils are currently working at the school allotment, it is situated opposite Penrose School and we are very proud of the work our pupils do there and their achievements.

These are just a few projects and organisations we work with and I wanted to thank all of our partners across Bridgwater who support our young people to gain new skills, learn how to work with their peers in different settings and also support our students to make a difference within our local community.

As you are aware from recent letters coming home from school and through the recent drop in

session with Phil Curd, we are beginning to design a new school. This is a very exciting opportunity for the Federation as we move forward and grow. We should hear in June if we have the final sign off to go ahead more formally with the design and build and I will keep you posted as we hear more news. One thing we are really keen to do is to ensure that all stakeholders have an opportunity to share their ideas and thoughts about the design of our new build and I will work with the Family Team to put some additional workshops together for you to come along and get involved.

We are looking forward to a busy but exciting few weeks, we have 'Diversity' Enrichment week before half term where all students will be learning about different cultures  and how we are all different.  There will also be a focus on British values.

We are also planning our Year 11 and Year 14 Prom before we say goodbye and good luck to our leavers at the end of June.

We are looking forward to our  Summer Fayre on the 22nd June and in July, we look forward to

Activities Weeks and welcoming our new starters as they start their transition ready for their start in September. We have a whole Federation picnic planned (fingers crossed for sunshine) and some transition activities for all students as they prepare to change class and teacher. All students will leave at 2pm on the last day of term (Friday 20 July).

I look forward to seeing you all at various events throughout the term.
